iPhone Game Review: Low Grav Racer
Low Grav Racer is an intense, fast paced, 3D, anti-gravity, racing game based in the far future. Those of you familiar with the classic Wipeout franchise that originally came to the PlayStation will instantly see similarities as Cobra Mobile attempt to bring the intense high speed racing experience to the iPhone.
With two modes of play, Single Play and Competition play, the game features impressive 3D graphics and impressively smooth gameplay that will give you an all round great experience when playing this game. You control your ship by tilting your device to steer, which works well and gives the game a good feel and decent control over your ship. A button is also available to you to apply brakes when racing.
In competition play you are required to finish each race in the top 3 to unlock the next track, with a total of 12 planet based tracks available to unlock. These tracks then become unlocked for Single Play. My only gripe with this is that when I saw “Competition Play” in the menu I assumed it would put me in a mini-league or cup to compete for points across a couple of rounds. Unfortunately this isn’t quite the case with it just being one race at a time and just to unlock the next track. Perhaps this could be a new feature introduced in future updates of the game as it would certainly give it that little bit extra to keep you coming back for more.
Despite this, gameplay is fun and competitive. This is added to with a number of weapons…

Moto Racing GP
This is the first attempt I have come across at a 3D bike racer. Graphics look a little shoddy in my opinion but it gives me hope for more bike titles in the future.

Ferrari GT: Evolution hits the app store
Along with Hero of Sparta earlier this week Ferrari GT Evolution is the 3rd big title release in under a week from Gameloft. Having been impressed with both Brothers in Arms and Hero of Sparta, I expect another great installment here.

iPhone Game Review: TV Show King
TV Show King is one of the more recent games to come from prolific mobile game developers, Gameloft. Joining the likes of Real Football 2009, Asphalt 4, Midnight Pool & Bowling, TV Show King is their take on a TV trivia show.
Packed with more then 3,000 questions varying from Sports and Science to Geography and Mathematics, TV Show King has plenty to keep you busy and more importantly entertained for many hours. This is only added to with customisable in-game characters, in-game animations and even an online multiplayer mode.
In single player mode you are up against 3 fellow contestants, where you are required to answer a series of multiple choice questions, in a bid to win cash for answering the question correctly. In-between rounds you are offered the choice to brave the prize wheel that consists of a number of different cash bonuses along with a number of bogey items that if landed on, could potentially ruin your chances of winning.
The game makes use of simple touch controls where you just tap one of the multiple choice answers before the time limit of 10 seconds runs out for each question. One small gripe I have with the actual answering of questions is the fact that you can see what answers your other opponents have opted for. So if you are unsure of a question and select an answer, only to see the others go for something else, it it easy for you to change to make sure you get a few points. I think this would be much better if either the other contestants answers were hidden to avoid what seems to…

World Championship Pool 2009
Looks like a promising game and one to challenge my current favourite, Midnight Pool. I’ve had a quick 5 minute play on it and I’m very impressed. Smooth game play, great visuals, good controls and great replays. Could be a winner.

Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes comes to the App Store
The much anticipated Brothers in Arms: Hour of Heroes has hit the app store today. It looks to be another big title for leading iPhone game developers, Gameloft. These guys seem to be capable of turning out great game after great game so hopefully this one isn’t any different. In my eyes Gameloft are the guys pushing gaming on the iPhone in the right direction with some ambitious releases and more to come.

TouchGrind now available
The much anticipated TouchGrind has finally hit the App Store. I’ve had the chance to give it a 15 minute spin and it’s pretty much as I expected. The graphics are impressive as are the controls, but the game is pretty tricky to get the hang of. Navigating around skate parks is also pretty tricky to get the hang of, making it difficult to really nail any smooth, flowing runs as you would hope. I’m sure with plenty of practice this game will be great though.
